Want to learn more about the people behind the Brew? This series will give you the answers to the most important questions (and some not-so-important questions) you may want to ask. This week, we’re chatting with Meghan, one of our graphic designers.
WHERE DID YOU GROW UP?
I grew up in Watson, Louisiana. It’s a small town with only two red lights, so basically everyone is your neighbor and there’s a strong chance if you yell “John!” in public, at least 12 men will turn towards you.
WHAT DO YOU DO FOR FUN?
I always enjoy hanging with friends! We usually can agree on a night full of chips and salsa, margaritas, and movies. Other times though, I binge watch The Office (again) on Netflix with my cat. Both activities usually involve my sofa.
DID YOU ALWAYS WANT TO BE A GRAPHIC DESIGNER?
I’ve always enjoyed making art and I took talented art classes from 5th grade up until I graduated from high school. My aunt was also an artist as well as a graphic designer. I was inspired by the work she created and wanted to follow in her footsteps, so in 2013 I entered the graphic design program at LSU and I haven’t turned back. I love what I do!
WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE BREW (BEER/TEA/COFFEE)?
My creativity each day at Brew is fueled from coffee! But I do enjoy all three.
WHAT’S YOUR TOP CORE VALUE AND WHY?
I would say my favorite core value would be “Fearless”. I’ve always been too afraid of making a mistake or bold decision in my work, but as I’ve progressed in this field, I’ve realized some of my best work comes from taking a risk!
FAVORITE LOCAL LUNCH SPOT?
Curbside off Government Street is an amazing lunch spot! Hands down the best burgers and tater tots. It’s a great spot to betray your diet.
WHAT’S ONE FACT ABOUT YOURSELF THAT MOST PEOPLE WOULD BE SURPRISED TO HEAR?
I have an obsession with Lin-Manuel Miranda and his American musical Hamilton. I know all the songs and can rap all about our founding fathers.
WHICH FICTIONAL CHARACTER (TV SHOW, MOVIE, OR BOOK) DO YOU MOST IDENTIFY WITH?
I feel like, spiritually, I relate to Kevin off the office. He’s bad at math, hates exercise, and loves food. I don’t know who I could relate to more.
WHAT’S YOUR IDEAL BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION?
I always love a good surprise! I don’t really have a preference on what I would love to see happen, I just am always flattered by anyone looking to see my day special.
WHO DO YOU WANT TO BE WHEN YOU GROW UP?
My dream is to work in NY! I hope to work my way up to being a designer people recognize. Graphic design is all about inspiration and it would be amazing if people looked up to my work just as I’ve looked up to other extremely talented designers!
